Potions are powerful elixirs used to heal wounds, cure afflictions,
strengthen defences, restore vital resources, or even inflict harm upon
your enemies. These concoctions come in many varieties including afflictive,
corrosive, curative, defensive, and restorative, each with distinct effects
and unique purposes.
Potion Creation and Usage
Potions are mixed by those with the Alchemy skill in containers such as small
vials or larger glass bottles. A freshly mixed potion contains multiple sips,
representing individual doses. Once the sips are depleted, the bottle becomes
empty, but don't discard it - as empty bottles can be refilled or reused by
Alchemists.
The ingredients used to craft a potion typically lends it a default colour,
though Alchemists are capable of altering this through dyes or other additives.
As such, it is important to be aware that colour alone is not a reliable
indicator of a potion's type or effects, and it is especially important to
pay attention to this detail when buying pre-mixed potions from a shop.
To use a potion, simply type DRINK or SIP <potion>. This will consume
one sip from the bottle and activate its effect. Potions do not require
preparation or casting time, making them invaluable during PVP or PVE encounters.
Bear in mind, most potions require at least a few seconds, if not minutes for
some, before the body can recover from their effects of and tolerate another.
This is referred to as a "potion balance" and it is wise to learn and
understand the timing of before entering a fight.
Potion Identification
Those with the Alchemy skill are able to identify unknown potions more quickly
than those without, but the Assessment skill enables all Mystavarians to learn
and eventually fully identify potions. The POTIONLIST command learned in
under the Assessment skill tree can be useful to see all potions in your
inventory for quick organisation. You may also use PROBE <potion> to see
details specific details about an individual potion. The amount of information
revealed depends on your Assessment skill level.
