Portals and rifts are magical gateways that allow for rapid travel across great
distances. These shimmering thresholds can be conjured by thouse with various
skill abilities and are often temporary in nature, though some rare portals are
permanent fixtures in the world.
Anyone may ENTER a portal, regardless of who created it. However, not all
portals should be assumed safe. Some are one-way only, others may vanish after
a single use, and their destinations may be dangerous, unknown, or hostile.
While some travellers use portals to cross the world in an instant, others
employ them more tactically. Healers, for instance, may open a portal to reach
a fallen ally. At the same time, a cautious adventurer should always consider
the origin of a portal before stepping through. Some may be cast with benevolent
intent, others as traps or invasions.
Portals are magical in nature, and thus subject to disruption. Certain negation spells or warding abilities may dispel an active portal, or prevent one from
being sent to a particular location at all.
