Game Help: Bank
Banks can be found in many of the settlements around the world. Each bank
is controlled by the local government and may levy different fees or offer
different interest rates on deposited money. There is only one bank per
settlement. To discover the whereabouts of a local bank, type BANK, or
use BANKS to see the whereabouts of banks across the realm.
Why Bank?
There is no safer place for your hard-earned coins than the bank. Coins
can be stolen by other adventures and is often left behind on your corpse
should you have an untimely encounter with death. Banks are completely
secure and deposited money cannot be stolen from, ensuring your wealth is
protected from the consequences of day-to-day adventuring.
How to Open a Bank Account
To open a bank account, find a bank and use BANK OPEN, or simply make
your first BANK DEPOSIT there and an account will be opened for you.
You may hold one account in each settlement's bank, so you can spread
your wealth across several settlements. Remember, banks are controlled
by the local government and have nothing to do with one another.
From within the halls of a bank, you can use BANK STATUS to review their
local fees and interest rate, if any.
Deposits and Withdrawals
To interact with banked money, you can make deposits and withdrawls. Both
of these commands must be issued from within the halls of a bank.
BANK DEPOSIT <amt> Deposit the specified amount into your local account.
BANK WITHDRAW <amt> Withdraw the specified amount from your local account.
Transferring Funds
It is possible to transfer funds from your bank account to someone else's
account using BANK TRANSFER <amt> <recipient>. The funds must already be
deposited in your account to do this. If the recipient does not already have
an account at the local bank, one will automatically be created in their name
to hold the transfer amount.
You may also move your own coins between your accounts at different
settlements' banks, from within either one:
BANK TRANSFER <amt/ALL> FROM <settlement> Move coins from your account there to this one.
BANK TRANSFER <amt/ALL> TO <settlement> Move coins from this account to your account there.
BANK TRANSFER ALL HERE Gather every coin you hold at other banks into this one.
Each bank charges its own commission, just as for a withdrawal at the
bank the coins leave and a deposit at the bank they arrive in. A frozen
account can neither send nor receive coins, and a bank whose treasury
is too low to pay out cannot release them; BANK TRANSFER ALL HERE
moves everything it can and tells you which accounts it had to leave.
Treasury Donations
For those feeling generous, it is possible to contribute your own funds to
the local treasury. You can do so using BANK DONATE <amt>.
Autodraft
Recurring bills can be paid straight from your account at a bank,
set separately at each bank you hold an account with:
BANK AUTODRAFT Review your autodraft settings here.
BANK AUTODRAFT <category/ALL> ON/OFF Turn a category on or off.
Categories are RESIDENTIAL (property tax on homes), COMMERCIAL
(property tax on shops), LOTS (property tax on unbuilt lots), RESIDENCY
(residency fee), RENT (rent on properties you rent) and VENDOR (the
yearly renewal of a vendor permit; see HELP PERMITS). Rent and
vendor are on by default; the rest start off.
Autodraft runs each month, paying the most overdue bills first. If the
account can't cover everything, it pays what it can, and autodraft is
switched off for any category left unpaid until you switch it back on.
Autodraft can draw on a frozen account to pay the debts the freeze is
for.
Clan and Guild Accounts
A clan or guild may hold its own account at each settlement's bank,
separate from any member's. Add CLAN or GUILD to act on it instead of
your own account:
BANK OPEN CLAN/GUILD Open an account for your clan or guild here.
BANK ACCOUNT CLAN/GUILD Review its balance and standing here.
BANK DEPOSIT <amt> CLAN/GUILD Deposit coins you carry into it.
BANK WITHDRAW <amt> CLAN/GUILD Withdraw coins from it.
BANK STATEMENT CLAN/GUILD Review its recent activity here.
BANK TRANSFER <amt/ALL> FROM/TO <settlement> CLAN/GUILD
Move its coins between its accounts.
BANK TRANSFER ALL HERE CLAN/GUILD Gather its coins from every bank into this one.
Any member may deposit. Reviewing the account takes clan members above
Initiate, or guild members of Officer rank or higher. Opening and
withdrawing are for the Clan Leader and Co-Leader, or the Guildmaster
and Quartermasters. A guildhouse's Steward may also open, review and
withdraw, but only at the bank of the settlement their guildhouse
stands in, and may send coins on from there with TRANSFER ... TO, but
not call them in from other banks. See CLAN POWERS BANKING /
GUILD POWERS BANKING.
The bank's commission and interest apply as they do to your own
account. The organisation fee (see HELP TREASURY TAX) is drawn from
the account automatically, and the proceeds of any lot or building the
clan or guild sells are paid into its account in that settlement,
opening one if need be. The fee is only ever drawn from the account
and vault in the settlement that charges it, so if moving coins away
would leave that account short of the fee, you will be asked to
confirm first.
The settlement's government may freeze the account, which stops
deposits and withdrawals but not the fee. Every movement on the account
is recorded in the clan's or guild's log (CLAN LOG BANKING /
GUILD LOG BANKING).
Reviewing Your Banked Wealth
In addition to an overview displayed in the SCORE command, there are a
few other ways to assess your bank accounts and overall wealth.
WEALTH Shows held coins, banked money, and total accumulated wealth.
BANK ACCOUNTS Shows information about your bank accounts across the realm.
BANK ACCOUNT From within a bank, shows the amount in your local account.
BANK STATEMENT From within a bank, shows recent activity on your local account.
